Pensions to increase on 20 March (News)
Around four million Australians will receive an increase in their pensions and other income support payments from 20 March 2010, through indexation.
Pension payments will increase by $29.20 a fortnight for singles on the maximum rate, and $44.00 a fortnight for couples combined on the maximum rate.

The Rudd Government will provide $65,000 to the Welfare Rights Centre to keep families, pensioners and other income support recipients informed of their rights and obligations when accessing government payments.

The Australian Government will provide $65,000 to the Welfare Rights Centre in New South Wales to keep families, pensioners and other income support recipients informed of their rights and obligations when accessing government payments.
The new funding will help employ a researcher to update and edit the Online Independent Social Security Handbook and provide the information free of charge on the Welfare Rights Centre website, making it more accessible. Currently it is accessed through a subscription fee.

Under the Government's Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, all pensioners and seniors will on average be fully compensated for the costs of acting on climate change.
Mr Abbott has indicated he will provide a detailed and fully costed climate change policy by the time Parliament resumes in February.
