Safety on the Dukes Highway is to be further improved following the start of construction on four new rest areas and the upgrade of three existing rest areas, part of  a $6.6 million project to upgrade conditions on the Dukes highway.

The Tolmer Group of Companies has won the $2.6 million contract to undertake the construction works between Tailem Bend and the Victorian border.

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy today used international Safer Internet Day to remind people of steps to take to stay safer on the internet. 

“Each February, nations around the world mark Safer Internet Day to raise awareness about using online technology and mobile phones safely and responsibly,” said Senator Conroy.

Work begins on more truckie rest areas (News)

The federal and state governments are working together to provide local and interstate truck drivers with more opportunities to get the rest they need, which in turn will make the roads safer for all road users.

The construction of five new and the refurbishment of eight existing rest areas along Port Wakefield Road in South Australia have commenced, providing more safe places for truck drivers to take a break or catch up on their sleep.

The thirteen projects are being jointly funded, with the Federal Government having committed $4.5 million and the South Australian Government a further $3.3 million.
